Information Overload

It’s 1:30 am and I cannot sleep. I find myself scrolling through articles.

‘Why organic is a lie.’

‘2 new tricks to make you more productive.’

‘What Apple isn’t telling you about the new AI that will take over in 2 years’

So on and so forth.

The titles above I just made up but you get the point. It seems that everyone is an expert and you only need to make that one change to transform your life. OR in case you are one of those rare people who have life figured out, there will be 5 new articles screeching on your social media about how what you thought you knew (about anything really), is a lie.

The brain can handle only so much constant bombardment of information (albeit self-initiated) before doubt creeps in.

Is my morning routine actually the reason for that promotion I missed?

Should I start yoga so that my child starts building healthy spiritual habits?

If I haven’t found my work-life balance, does it mean I am not living my life properly?

Sometimes I imagine if aliens came down on earth and decided to go online to gather data about this new species called ‘humans’, how disoriented they would get. So much information, often contradictory. Each data trying to battle the other to get that extra second of a person’s attention. Each advice teaching a shorter cut on how to live life. Each article trying to document like an anthropologist. The aliens would run away confused and miserable.

We, however, do not have that option. So we pick and choose. Mix the information with humour, and a dash of spirituality in the hopes that if we just read enough, think enough and do enough, we will have pursued our happiness.
